The gift of life on earth exposes man to one of its greatest assets — time. It is finite and cannot be regained. Its uniqueness makes it priceless compared to material possessions. It serves as the means to attain the desires of the heart and the conceptions of the mind.
Although time cannot be bought, we are fortunate to have the chance to purchase a lot with it. Many have used it to gain growth, power, experience, strength, and meaningful relationships. Others, unfortunately, squandered it; and the end results — failure, stagnation, and missed opportunities — kept calling their names.
The difference between these two outcomes lies in the contrast between a deep understanding of time and the strategic steps required to optimise its value, versus viewing time as a resource readily available at any moment.
Time is never stagnant. It continuously moves forward. The concept of Chronos and Kairos provides us with the opportunity to make informed decisions. As a result, we’re able to take deliberate steps one at a time.
While Chronos represents the linear progression of time (seconds, minutes, hours), Kairos represents opportune moments. Often, Kairos is embedded in Chronos. This is to say that specific moments within the linear flow of time (Chronos) can present unique opportunities (Kairos).
There were days you trained so hard for that game or skill because you knew a time would come when you’d have to prove that you deserved the medal or were fit for that role. Perhaps you might even be preparing for moments yet to come. Each of these instances is interconnected; one follows the other. You cannot miss one and expect the other to manifest.
Within a specific time frame, favourable moments arise. Some may signify the time to make investments, initiate relationships or pursue a goal. The only important factor is one’s ability to recognise a given phase and what to do with it.
Many of our aspirations do not require a one-time attempt but a continuous effort. Time provides us with the space to learn and grow. It gives us the permit to gain experiences that sharpen our understanding. Time instils a sense of hope for the future. Time offers the space to reflect and correct our mistakes. When all we have is time, we can purchase a lot with it.
Don’t shrink it; cherish and maximise it. Time is not just an ally but a powerful canvas on which every possibility can be painted!
