Surrounded By What We Need (Part 1)

It is evident that no person is without needs. Abraham Maslow’s hierarchy of needs outlines a five-tier model of human necessities, and everyone strives to meet these needs in any way possible. This could be the quest for improvement, stability or growth.

Often, the resources to attain most of our needs lie around us, but we lack the ability to recognize and utilize them effectively. And this leads to failure in achieving the results we desire.

While it may be easy to recognize that you’re in need, identifying the specific need is important in order to determine the right resources to go for.  That’s where, and from whom to seek assistance.

For instance, an individual in need of self-improvement, health or well-being would have to seek help from people who are well-versed in these areas. The interesting thing is that these resources are often closer than we think. They may be within or around us.

Forms of Resources

Everything around and within us provides the resources we need to embark on any journey we intend to take. Resources may appear in different forms. It could be money, skills, knowledge, or humans serving as resources. With that said, it is our responsibility to identify them.

Recognizing the resources available

By following the approach below, individuals can recognize the resources available to them and utilize them effectively:

1.

Self-reflection

Our innate qualities (talents) and potential pose as resources that can be tapped, nurtured, and utilized to attain what we desire.

While we may think that certain achievements are far from us, what we basically need to execute these achievements often lie within us. So, it is not that they are far away; we just can’t realize them.

For instance, a person who has a natural skill for problem-solving may not initially see themselves in any technical field, however, by further developing their analytical skills through education and real-world experience, they could transition into a successful career in analysis. This is the same for other innate abilities.

Do this! Take stock of your skills, talents and experiences. Know what you excel at. Understand your strengths and areas for improvement to pinpoint the resources that can enhance your capabilities.

Goal setting

Every need that requires attention must have ways to address it; and goal setting serves as a means through which a particular outcome can be achieved. Goal setting helps you define what you want to accomplish. This will then enable you to assess the resources available, that can directly support your path to success.

If you lack clarity on what you want to achieve, you may find yourself accepting any opportunity that comes your way—some of which might not align with your true desires. And without careful discernment, you risk misallocating your time and energy on pursuits that distract you from your actual goals.

All that we need surrounds us, but without clarity of purpose and the ability to be resourceful, we may lack what we truly desire!
